Home Design Calgary for Custom and Acreage Homes
Amaya Design prepares site plans, floor plans, elevations, and permit drawings for homeowners working with an architectural designer in Calgary. The layout and exterior are developed together, with site constraints, room requirements, budget direction, and builder questions recorded before the design is issued for pricing.
On a city lot, that may mean finding daylight without giving up privacy. For acreage home design in Calgary, it may mean deciding how the house meets the drive, frames a view, and handles the distance between the garage and everyday living spaces. See how those decisions come together in our custom home design work for custom and acreage homes.
Our residential work includes custom homes, acreage residences, infills, major renovations, and boutique multi-family projects in Calgary and nearby communities.

Residential Architecture
MEADOW
01 / 04
Before drawing a floor plan, we record household routines and property conditions. The brief covers morning use, grocery arrival, quiet rooms, site constraints, and the information the builder will need for review.
Across city lots and acreage properties, our residential work falls into four main areas:
Custom homes for inner-city and acreage sites
Single-family infills and semi-detached homes
Fourplexes and boutique multi-family projects
Major renovations and home additions
Each project calls for a different response, but the working documents have the same job: explain the layout, exterior, dimensions, and key relationships clearly enough for pricing, permits, consultant coordination, and construction. Acreage Living
Acreage Home Design Calgary
Acreage home design is not simply a city plan placed on a larger lot. The longer approach, open exposure, servicing, outbuildings, views, and distance between everyday spaces can all change how the house should be organized. Our portfolio includes acreage projects in Rocky View County, Springbank, Bearspaw, De Winton, Balzac, and Foothills County.
Before arranging rooms, we study where the home belongs on the property. The driveway approach, winter light, prevailing views, privacy, garage access, and the grade around the house all affect that decision. A few metres of movement on the site can change the arrival, outlook, and relationship to the land.
Once the placement is established, we develop the plan and exterior together so the main living spaces, garage, outdoor areas, and windows respond to the same site logic. Our acreage home design approach carries those decisions into the permit and construction drawings.
About Us
Home Designers in Calgary Working From Site Review Through Permit Drawings
We are a Calgary residential design team that works through the practical decisions behind custom homes, acreage residences, infills, renovations, and small multi-family projects.
The drawings resolve items that a finished photograph may not show: stair landings, the route from garage through mudroom to kitchen, windows placed for daylight and neighbour privacy, and roof geometry that can be dimensioned and coordinated.
We develop the design from early layouts through exterior studies and permit-ready drawings, keeping the original idea connected to the information that builders and consultants need. That is the work our home designers in Calgary bring to every project.

Our Process
Five Stages From Project Brief to Construction Questions
A residential design process should make decisions visible while there is still time to change them. Each stage adds a different level of detail, giving homeowners, builders, and consultants clear information to review before the project advances. We describe the full Calgary home design process in more detail.
See our processStage 01
Site and Brief
We begin with the property, the people who will use the home, the budget direction, and the planning or construction constraints already known.
Stage 02
Layout Options
Early plans test room relationships, circulation, views, sunlight, privacy, and how the building sits on the site. These drawings give us something specific to discuss and revise.
Stage 03
Exterior and Technical Development
Once the plan direction is established, we develop the elevations, roof, openings, dimensions, and technical information needed for consultant and builder review.
Stage 04
Permit Documents
We prepare the architectural drawing package for the applicable permit submission and respond to design-related questions that arise during review.
Stage 05
Pricing and Construction Questions
When builders or consultants need clarification, we help interpret the design and address drawing questions within the agreed project scope.

Concept Design Inputs
Information Needed Before Concept Design
The property information, household routines, and required drawing scope determine what can be tested in the first plan options.
How should the home meet the site?
Access, grade, sunlight, neighbouring properties, and views should influence the building position before the room plan is settled.
Which routines should the plan support?
The plan records the route from garage to pantry, separation of quiet and social rooms, storage locations, and daily circulation before finishes are discussed.
What must the drawings explain?
Plans and elevations need to communicate dimensions, levels, openings, roof relationships, and the design information required by reviewers, consultants, and builders.
Drawing Coordination
What the Floor Plans and Elevations Must Resolve

Arrival and Everyday Movement
The path from driveway to front door, garage to mudroom, and kitchen to outdoor space is part of the architecture, not leftover circulation.

Light, Privacy and Views
Window placement has to do several jobs at once: bring in useful daylight, frame the right outlook, and respect neighbouring properties.

One Design, Carried Through the Drawings
The floor plan, elevations, roof, openings, and key dimensions are developed together so the permit and construction information supports the same idea.
FAQ
Questions About Scope, Project Types, and Permit Drawings
What does a home designer in Calgary do?
A home designer develops the floor plan, exterior, and architectural drawings for a residential project. At Amaya Design, the work can include site review, concept planning, permit-ready drawings, and design coordination with the builder and project consultants.
Do you provide acreage home design near Calgary?
Yes. Our portfolio includes acreage homes in Rocky View County, Springbank, Bearspaw, De Winton, Balzac, and Foothills County. We begin with site placement, access, grade, sunlight, views, privacy, and the relationship between the house, garage, and outdoor areas.
What types of residential projects do you design?
Our work includes custom homes and acreage residences, inner-city infills and semi-detached homes, boutique multi-family projects, and major renovations or additions. Each service page explains the design questions and drawing scope relevant to that project type.
Can you prepare drawings for a permit application?
Yes. We develop the architectural design into a drawing package for the applicable permit submission. Permit requirements vary by project and location, so the required documents and consultant input are reviewed as part of the project scope. Read more about our design process.
